Global Esports Federation Launches Innovation And Research Centre In Athens

The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has launched an Innovation and Research Centre in Athens, Greece in a collaboration with Socialinnov, a non-profit organization. The facility’s goal is to strengthen the local esports ecosystem in the country, while also expanding opportunities within the industry.
The facilities are intended to be collaborative spaces designed to ‘unlock human potential in the digital era’, and offer ranges of programmes that will integrate esports with education and wellness. The Innovation and Research Centre (IRC) will also enable greater cooperation across several regions and aims to open doors for investment opportunities that focus on responsible gaming habits and creating sustainable career pathways.
Founded in 2013, Socialinnov’s goal is to provide youth and communities with digital skills, enabling them to upskill and reskill to embark on careers within digital industries. The organization has been able to secure investment rounds, which they did in April 2025, to the amount of $100,000.
Global Esports Federation In 2025
Over the past eight months the Global Esports Federation has continued to operate various initiatives across the world. One of which includes Peru hosting the Global Esports Games event to begin a multi-year deal with Lima, the country’s capital city and governing body. The event was set to take place in 2024 but was pushed back to 2025, to begin the Global Esports Tour with aims of growing esports in other regions. There is also the next event which had been announced in August that Los Angeles, California will be hosting the event in 2026, in partnership with the Los Angeles Times Media Group
